I recently set up a wrt54g router that I got used from a friend. I pressed the 'reset' button on the back, configured it for my computer according to the instructions on the website, and everything worked fine for a couple of days. Then I lost connectivity, tried powercycling my modem, but had to reset and reconfigure the router again. Worked fine again for a couple of days, then the problem repeated itself, so I reset and reconfigured again. Is there something I'm doing wrong, or something additional I should do?

Do a firmware upgrade or to isolate the issue you can try this ..
if you just turn off the router alone and able to go online : issue might be on the router
if you turn off the modem only or modem and router : issue might be on the modem
