WRT160Nv2 - LAN connection drops

I have just purchased and installed a WRT160N.  Wireless connection works fine.

Wired connection also OK but it drops with no errors in logs: Can't connect to URLs but connection status is "connected".

IP release /renew seems to fix issue but this is not workable long term as this happens several times a day.

Anyone have any ideas?

Re: WRT160Nv2 - LAN connection drops

There is a known issue with intermittent connectivity and the Build 11 firmware for the WRT160N V2. Build 11 is the current firmware on the Linksys site. Check to see if you have Build 11 if your router is a V2.
Downgrading to Build 8 is generally accepted to correct these issues, however Linksys have indicated to several people they do not have the build 8 firmware to give to end users.

This is ONLY for WRT160N V2 routers. This firware will not work on WRT160N V1.

You can find it at http://audipages.com/router/

kevj is right, you should downgrade the firmware to resolve such issues...Go to the website mentioned and you will find the firmware file and instructions to downgrade the firmware...

Re: WRT160Nv2 - LAN connection drops

I downgraded this morning as per the instructions (btw if they were any easier to follow, they'd install themselves) amd have not had a 404 all day.

Looks like my problem is solved.

Many thanks for the post.

Re: WRT160Nv2 - LAN connection drops

I'm having a similar issue. I'll try this tonight.

Why is Linksys not fixing the problem? I'm sure myself and the original poster in this thread are not the only ones to experience this problem. Why offer upgraded firmware if it doesn't work properly?

Re: WRT160Nv2 - LAN connection drops

FWIW, I had this problem with my recently purchased WRT160N (actually, I've had it a few months, but just bought a wired file server).  Talked to the linksys support person who said get the 'latest' firmware, which turned out to be a downgrade to build 8 from the pre-installed build 11.

So, in short, linksys has apparently figured out that build 8 was the last good build, and has put it out on their web site.

Does anyone know why linksys keeps the same version number across multiple builds?  It makes it that much harder to figure out whether you're running the right stuff.

Kevj,

I think only moderators can post 'solved'.   Users can only post kudos.
