FIXED - ***Attention Mac/WRT54G users***

[ Edited ]
Recently Linksys identified an issue with some devices and Mac's that would prevent them from obtaining an IP address from the router.  Last week Linksys released new firmware for the WRT54G that resolves this issue. Please download the firmware by clicking here.

Well, i think after updating firmware the router and the wireless/wired conection is more stable, but, now the internet conection is low, i don't know why but i stand hours waiting to download a page or conecting to a messenger, etc...
if you have some fix for it, i'll apreciate it.

WRT54G v6 with a wired win XP PC and a wireless MAC

Re: FIXED - ***Attention Mac/WRT54G users***

that is correct, the link is to a doc file. And the latest firmware file (which I found and dled) does not expand. Stuffit expander tells me it doesn't know what to do with it.

Meanwhile, my router no longer wants to give DHCP adresses to my computers. I can always bypass the router, but that kind of defeats the idea of a wireless laptop. And I bought the router for that very purpose. Not a happy camper....

Do not expand the .bin file. Just start the update routine and point the router at the downloaded .bin file. If I recall, there are detailed instructions in the FAQ.

Here are detailed instructions Cecil2006 posted:
1) Before you start, be sure you are using a PC that is connected to the WRT54G via a wired (Ethernet) connection.

2) Open your web browser (e.g., Internet Explorer, Netscape, etc.)

3) In the Address bar, type in the IP address of your router. The default IP address is 192.168.1.1.

4) Leave the username blank and enter your password. The default password is "admin", all lower case.

5) Click on the Administration tab.

6) Click on Firmware Upgrade.

7) Browse for the firmware file that you have just extracted. The file name should end in .bin

8) Click the Upgrade button.

9) The router will begin its upgrade routine. Do not power off or unplug the router until the process is completed. This process may take up to 5 minutes to complete.

10) Press the reset button for 30 seconds after the upgrade and power down the router for 10 seconds.

11) Reconfigure the router.

Re: FIXED - ***Attention Mac/WRT54G users***

Hi,

I'm yet another unhappy camper dealing with my new Linksys WRT54G version 6 router with the inability to connect my MAC G4 laptop.  I've been on the tele with countless individuals who retort with "we don't offer assistance with MAC's!"  Yet I'm told that it is a great router and MAC's will work fine.  Unfortuanately, I'm still unable to figure out what I'm doing wrong.  One of my confusions is that I'm told I should download the latest firmware which apparently is 1.01.1 but when I attempt to upgrade the firmware, it tells me that I have the latest version.  I pull up my network settings and the version stated on my Network settings page says I have version 1.01.0 so I'm lost.  On my MAC, I have a great connection signal with my Airport but I'm unable to gain access to the internet.  On my MAC I'm asked a password for my router but when I enter my password my MAC states it doesn't recognize it for access.  I'm so lost and desperate.  Any and all assistance would be truly appreciated as I've been at this for a month.  My PC desk and lap work wonderfully it's just my MAC.  Thanks

This sounds hopeful except for...

I want to report that there is a bigger problem than either Mac or Linksys. I'm a brand newbie who needs to read and read your forum posts to see what else has been said but I've had 2 PC laptops do the same, the first with an Airport Extreme Base Station. Linksys has worked fine for a month or so but now I'm getting the self-generated IP address on my PC laptop from my job. The computer connected by ethernet to an iMac and has been connected by wireless to a PC laptop AND an eMac. So far, unlike before with the AEBS, the eMac is connected. But last time eventually (a week or so later) the eMac got cut off as well. I'll definitely do the maneuvers to implement this fix but I'm not too hopeful. May post this to the correct forum as a help inquiry but wanted to tell about this. Thanks.
