Arris Cable Modem not working with WRT54G Router

I am at my wits end.Comcast just changed my old RCA cable modem for an Arris Telephony modem.(I had Comcast phone service added)The tech that did the install said the wireless G network was all up and running. (My 3 other computers and printer) Well lo and behold the network does not work at all. I only get internet through my wired computer and cannot access my router through 192.168.1.1 anymore.I tried powering down the router and modem by holding the reset for 30 seconds and unplugging them. Any help GREATLY appreciated!

Thanx!

ok man, good new and bad news. Good news, i know what ur goin through cause i have the exact same problem. Tried a new router too (wrt54g to no avail). Bad news i have no idea how to fix it. I've tried everything. Linksys tech support hasn't emailed back after their originaly fix which did nothing. Please PM me if you get any ideas. Ps Have you noticed that when the setup page times out you can't get an ip wirelessly. Also, my temporary fix is power cycling. Somtimes it works for a few days, or sometimes a few hours.

Are you sure the tech reconnected the router?? Usually they dont even deal with it.
What is the ip address you are getting on the pc? Open a command prompt (start/run/ type cmd and hit enter) and type ipconfig /all and hit enter.
You should have 192.168.x.x address. Do you?

The other posters....
try powercycling the modem, the arris has a reset button on it because on the battery backup that will powercycle it for you.
A cable modem has to be powercycled anytime the device directly connected to it is changed so it can "learn" that devices mac address.

Best way to powercycle an Arris telephony modem is to pull the powercord and the battery.  Leave for 30 seconds and reinstall battery then reattach powercord.

Re: Arris Cable Modem not working with WRT54G Router

Just went thru it with a netgear router.
disconnect the router from the modem, leaving the internet working pc connected.
reset the router.  login to the router, 192.168.1.1  should work now.
find the manual setup screen go thru the steps and (KEY) tell the router to use the mac address from the pc.

The arris modem and some others only remember, marry, the first pc they see.  So you have to trick it into thinking the router is the pc.

exit the setup, reconnect the modem to the router.

It should work, mine did.

Good luck.

Re: Arris Cable Modem not working with WRT54G Router

FYI..I had this same problem with my new RCA modem from Comcast and my Linksys WRT54G router.  I took your advice and went into the setup and "cloned" my PC's MAC and it works great.  What's tricky, is that you have to use the MAC of the NIC that was used when the tech originaly set it up.  So, for example my laptop has a wireless card as well as a RJ45/Ethernet card.  So if you pick the wrong MAC, it won't work for ya.  Good Luck Everyone....
