Adding SD2008 to WRT54GX4

Hi,

I have a WRT54GX4 router (SRX400 model), I want to add a gigabit switch possibly SD2008 (8-port switch)... Purpose is to provide gigabit speeds for my wired network while still allowing for wireless connectivity.  The 4 ports on the WRT54GX4 is not enough. Router is currently connected to cable modem for internet access.

Question:  Is this the best way to go about this? Where should the switch go? IE:  Connect to cable modem or connect to router?

Re: Adding SD2008 to WRT54GX4

The switch needs to be connected to a DHCP server...The router has a DHCP server in it..however, the modem does not...and so, the switch would get connected to the router and not the modem...no other change in the setting of the router is required....i hope this answers your query :smileyhappy:

It does... Thanks....

Is this the best way to add to my network ? IE:  I have all the ports on the router filled. (2 Network printers, NAS, Computer)

Adding the 8-port switch seemed (from what I have read) the best thing to do...

Re: Adding SD2008 to WRT54GX4

yeah...this would be the best way to add the switch to the network ...u just need to connect the switch to one of the LAN ports on the router and then connect the devices to the switch if you want...
